Mango is trying desperately hard to keep up with the worldwide expansion of it's competitors. Despite being a strong retail force in Europe, the high fashion retailer falls short behind Zara in the US which already has 25 stores. The flagship store features a 97-foot-long catwalk filled with mannequins surrounded by 80 year-old chairs which they rescued from an old cinema in Barcelona.
The MNG Manhattan flagship store has just opened in uber trendy SoHo but they faced many problems with the opening. "It's very tough because real estate is very tight," explains Jose Gomez, vice president of business development at Mango. "It's hard to find AAA locations. SoHo is a AAA location because it has an international clientele, American tourists and New York shoppers."
