It’s the season for celebrating iconic fashion worn by iconic women of the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. The latest exhibition will display dresses worn by Marilyn Monroe, some which have not gone on display for more than 40 years. The collection will include the iconic white halter dress, the pink satin dress from the Gentlemen Prefer Blondes performance of Diamonds are a Girls Bestfriend, the purple satin costume from How to Marry a Millionaire, and the red sequined dress from the opening scene of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. The exhibition will be on display in London at the Hilton Brighton Metropole Hotel in Brighton until October 7 and will include patterns and sketches produced by the late Oscar-winning costume designer William Travilla.
The costumes for Monroe were reportedly known as The Lost Collection, as Travilla placed his items and designs under lock and key in his private quarters. After his death in 1990, his partner is showing the exhibition to raise funds for Alzheimer's charities.
If you have a moment to spare this week, I definitely recommend you pop by to check out the iconic pieces and see what size Marilyn really was.
