Uninspired - when the high street lets us down
Luckily for me, having finished an arduous project and in the mood to treat myself I found myself on a shopping spree this weekend. But true to form, when you have the money you can't find the clothes.
I hit Manchester town centre like a kid in a candy store, as the cliché goes, and I'm afraid to say I came away all but empty handed. While trawling every shop on the high street like a girl on a mission, I drew no inspiration. So is it just me? I expected this to be the perfect time to shop, make hard decisions about which item to buy and then just have them both, and generally put my boyfriend through a little bit of hell along the way. It is pre-Autumn after all.
It may just be my penchant for things a little out of the ordinary and with touches of vintage, but I simply couldn't be inspired by anything I saw. Instead I wandered around the usual big names thinking how they could dress their shop rails better and (tragically) how this would serve as great research for work the next week! Finally, I indulged my personal shoe fetish with some gorgeous T bar shoes from Schuh, but I am a girl who never fails to fall back on a shoe purchase. Am I looking in all the wrong places?
Working for this site means I get to pore over clothes every day and drool excitedly, but when it came to me putting my money where my typing is I failed. Perhaps I'll save up for some designer gear next time. If I can.
So, I wonder ladies, does this happen to us all? Are you finding the British high street as inspirational as ever, or do you often go home empty handed? I might just put it down to the eternal curse of being able to afford everything I wanted for once.

I'm with you on this one I'm afraid. I'm finding the current high street stock totally uninspirational, with none of the beauties I coveted from the autumn winter shows being ripped off by my old faithfuls. Where are all the forties inspired numbers with nipped in waists? Where are all the jewelled purples, midnight blues and winter fuscias? And if anyone can point me in the direction of a full-skirted skirt suit to see me through autumn - there was a distinctly jacket-ready nip in the air on my way home last night - I will be eternally grateful! Maybe once the hideousness that is the end-of-sale stock has moved over our luck will change...
