Preen for Topshop's snood dress

At Shiny Towers the jury's out on this season's fashion gimmick du jour: snoods, me? I love them. The snood is cosier than a scarf and there's no cumbersome tying or knotting, ok so I'm lazy. Preen's fantastic plum dress (£90) uses a snood to add dramatic drapery which is always a good thing in my books. Obviously it's no Arctic weather protection but in 100% wool it will definitely keep you toasty during the mild winters we have here. The short sleeves are perfect for layering and the long ties nip you in and give some much-needed shape if you're bulking up to stay warm.
