Not one usually known for her political statements, Betsey Johnson finished up her show - which took place on September 11th - with models spelling out the word 'vote' on their backs. However, though the rest of the collection did feature the odd peace reference (a model in red, white and blue making a peace sign, floral hippy headpieces - see pictures under the cut) the real theme was something far more fun. Prom! This was no surprise after seeing the invitation, adorned with a photo of Betsey at her own prom...

In terms of what this collection is all about, it's hard to think of what to write. It's fun, frothy, frilly, prom night fun. You will either love it or hate it. Betsey was obviously having a really good play around with the girlie themes she adores, as were the models, who wore full net underskirts, flirty polka dots and wicked diamante glasses.

This was obviously not a collection that pandered to current trends, but that's never what Betsey Johnson's been about. She touches on things that other designers go crazy over, but she remains herself; always feminine, playful and youthful.

Personally, I always think the Betsey shows are a great bit of whimsy among more subdued collections, and I always look forward to seeing what cupcake-like creations she comes up with next!
