Hot young talent Josh Goot was one of the first designers to show his wares in New York this season, with a collection that played it surprisingly safe. With an Australian Target collection under his belt, Goot is now big news, so I must confess I was expecting something a bit more memorable than what hit the catwalk.
Not to say that his colourblock, bodycon dresses weren't pretty. The pastels are a nice move on from last season's neons, and the pretty, diaphanous layered dress is the kind of thing I can imagine a young starlet to wear to a daytime showbiz event...

Goot's palette was a mix of white, blue, black, beige and metallics, with the odd flash of a slightly brighter shade. Shapes were simple - either loose-fitting sacks or super-fitted numbers. The problem? As wearable as the colours and designs were, the shapes worked much better on the models than they would in real life.

This was not a bad collection, it was just instantly forgettable. With as many misses as hits - there were a few nasty tie-dye effect tops towards the end that cancelled out the pretty colour block pieces - it won't go down in history as a classic show. But no doubt it will sell!
