Milan Fashion Week: Roberto Cavalli

Yesterday we revealed images of the Cavalli for H&M range which is due in stores in November, at the same time Cavalli was presenting his latest collection at Milan Fashion Week. When I first saw the collection I had to double check that I was actually watching Cavalli as the whole line doesn't appear to feature any animal prints! Instead the Italian designer works with neutral shades, navy blue and floral prints to create an collection of grown up elegance.

Personally, I'm not usually a fan of Cavalli's creations. Not that I don't think they are wonderfully crafted pieces but they are just not for me. However, this season's pretty feminine, floaty dresses are gorgeous. Cavalli has taken inspiration from vintage dresses which are tailored around the waist and billowing skirts and sleeves. There is a slight androgynous feel to the high waisted trousers teamed with cropped blazers (above, left).

There is an almost bohemian theme to the collection with funky print maxi dresses and loose fitting chiffon shirts. Ruffles and pleats also featured heavily as well as swirly prints. Many of the designs were strapless or low cut to reveal the clavicles.

It is a very seventies inspired collection with eighties references such as the bright coloured prints. This surely marks a change in direction for the designer, hopefully something which will continue.
