Marc Jacobs bites back at fashion week critics

76670537.jpg"Robert [Duffy] and I discussed this today and we were like, you know what, we don’t want to show here anymore," Marc Jacobs told today's WWD in a fiery response to critics who have panned his New York Fashion Week show.

Comments published by the likes of Anna Wintour and Suzy Menkes, amongst others, have angered the notoriously late designer, prompting him and Robert Duffy, the president of Marc Jacobs International, to place separate calls to WWD.

Their biggest concerns - criticisms over the delay of the show (it was 2 hours late) and the rumours that Jacobs was in the Mercer Hotel restaurant or bar while his guests waited for his show to begin.

"I know that Marc didn't leave the showroom until 8 [on Monday night]," Duffy said. "He called me up and said, 'I have to go back home [the Mercer Hotel] and take a shower.' He was [at the Armory] at 8:30 for the rehearsal. So when all these people started calling me and telling me he was at the bar at the Mercer at 9:30 or 10, that's ridiculous. I was with him."

Jacobs provided WWD with a similar account of what took place but added a few expletives. "That is bullshit! That is bullshit! I was at the f**ing office until the last fitting was over. I came back to the hotel — I hadn't been here in three days! I hadn't showered in three days!" he said.

Both Jacobs and Duffy mentioned they are now seriously thinking of taking their show to London or Paris. "I don't really feel a part of the American fashion community," he said. "I really feel like an outsider, I think we all do, and we feel unloved here, so we want to go somewhere else," he said.

No complaints here!

The response continued with Jacobs apologising for the lateness of his show... well, sort of. "I'm very sorry that I inconvenienced anyone by having a show two hours late... We're all very upset that people got their noses bent out of joint. But I think this is so unfair. We do a huge production show, we try to give fashion and do a major fashion show in New York."

He then added: "You have a family? OK, well that’s nice, I don’t, and I work. So leave me alone and don’t come to the show next time."

Oh dear...

Or perhaps something else was wrong? Like his very disappointing collection???

I'm sorry, The collection looked sloppy and lazy to me. All the other big designers can get their acts together in a timely fashion. I'm happy to hear some critics aren't drinking his koolaid. London, you can have his whiny East Coast shtick.
