London Fashion Week: Betty Jackson S/S '08

Day five and it was an early start for Betty Jackson. As the more hardcore members of press got stuck into the champers (at 9.30am!) I made do with OJ and grabbed a pew...

Opening with a white midi-length simple cotton shift, Jackson is another in a long list of designers we've seen this LFW who are touting the white/nude/minimal trend for summer 2008. Remember you heard it here first!

Jackson is always known for her elegant, wearable styles and her collection provided plenty of options for her successful, chic, business-woman-about-town clientèle. For Monday to Friday there's lightweight black linen suits, skirts high-waisted and knee length (slutty minis are not the way to get ahead at work) and beige straight leg trousers paired with stone scoop-neck tunics. My favourites were a pair of wide-leg navy pleated trousers- so much easier to wear than skinnies.

Moving on, for weekends Jackson recommends fine floral print tea dresses and spaghetti strap summer dresses. For high days and holidays there's big bold print maxi dresses - I predict a rash of them in her Betty Jackson Two diffusion range for Fenwicks and John Lewis and her Betty Jackson Black range for Debenhams. For those "frumpy days" we all have, there's an inoffensive neutral sack dress.

For days at the races/weddings/parties Jackson provides strapless prom dresses with corsage detail on the bust area (good for emphasising one's assets). When evening glitz is required it's LBD's glammed up with black crystals. Filling the gaps are super fine knit separates, cute puff-sleeved shirts, and for when the temperature drops - leather jackets and coats in the same colour and smooth texture as your morning latte.

In fact, if you fit the Jackson profile you could do a lot worse than buy her entire collection - you'd be sartorially sorted for an entire six months!
