London Fashion Week: Eley Kishimoto S/S '08

As a longstanding fan of Eley Kishimoto I was pretty excited at seeing their latest collection. With a Village Fête theme they decked out the BFC tent in bunting and lucky front-rowers like Jess Cartner Morley and Zandra Rhodes got blue and yellow rosettes. Despite an hour-long long wait I was still full of anticipation to see what the print virtuosos had planned for next season and definitely wasn't ready for a Menkes-style outburst just yet!

The childlike colourful show was very reminiscent of Yellow Submarine, the psychedelic Beatles film from the late '60s. Highlights included mint green polka dot coats with undulating scalloped edges, gorgeous Clarice Cliff style prints, polka dot chambray and psychedelic stripes. Black and white stripe dresses with contrasting floral trim also caught my eye as did a few print-lined colourful cloche hats. I was a little disappointed that the Village Fête theme wasn't carried through enough as on the whole the show was a bit of jumble (sale! ha!).

Eley Kishimoto have never been obsessed with avant-garde preferring to do their own thing and that is one of the reasons I like them. Nevertheless, I was surprised to see smock tops and baby doll dresses making an appearance on the catwalk as even my dad knows they're nearing the end of their shelf life.
