Tuesdays post on Naomi Campbell's feelings about black models in the fashion industry really struck a chord with me. As a black woman working in the fashion industry, I'm painfully aware of how underrepresented we are. Though I count models such as Coco Rocha and Erin O'Connor amongst some of my favourites, Liya Kebede, Sunna Gottshalk and Selita Ebanks are just a few equally beautiful black models who, with the exception of Liya, are barely known. So it's nothing but good news to hear that the pretty Chanel Iman, credited by Vogue as being one of the worlds next top models, is due to be shot for a lucrative Gap ad campaign. Premiering in winter, the ads will be the most mainstream work she's done to date and as such could lead to her becoming a well known name in modeling for the future. Is Iman set to becoming the next Naomi Campbell? I hope not. Instead let's hope her individual beauty shows all major magazines or fashion houses out there that there's enough room in the industry for more than one top black model. [Source: Fashionista/Getty]
