Sometimes I love being a woman. "The vast majority of Britain's 14.4million female motorists admit to putting style before safety, research shows."
I imagine that when they phrased that question it wasn't worded exactly, "Do you think looking good is more important than your life?" However, I have to confess that I would probably have been one of those 14.4 million.
Road safety experts have been warning that chunky wide armed sunglasses, if worn when driving are potentially hazardous, not to mention those with very dark lenses.
The survey also found that eight out of ten women (82 per cent of 11.8 million surveyed) surveyed failed to consider safety when choosing sunglasses for driving.
"The researchers commissioned by insurer Sheilas' Wheels also found that fewer than one in five (18 per cent) of women bought sunglasses specifically for driving while almost two-thirds (61 per cent) based their choice on appearance rather than practicality."
I can drive but I don't do it very often (London isn't a nice place to drive) but I have never, ever considered anything other than style when choosing sunglasses. I realise this is bad and in future maybe I would be more careful, but does anybody? Do you? Maybe we really have all become dedicated followers of fashion!
