Trend Report: New Neutrals

This season's colour palette veers between juicy brights or sombre shades of black but earthy shades also made an appearance on the catwalks, Viktor & Rolf, Zac Posen, Hermes and Burberry Prorsum were some of the labels that flirted with neutrals. Dubbed "Armani colours" in the '90s these shades of khaki, olive and grey are making a comeback and look great with a black outfit; while the beiger shades of mink, taupe and mushroom perfectly update this summer's metallics. You don't have to spend a fortune though, as most people will already have a lot of neutrals in their wardrobe. Invest in a key neutral in an up-to-the-minute colour such as rust, mushroom or khaki and wear with a trenchcoat, skinny black jeans or last season's grey wide-leg trousers. Liven up a neutral outfit with chunky gold jewellery or perspex statement pieces.
