Giorgio Armani Prive built up from pretty tailored pieces consisting of waisted jackets, tuxedo suits and pretty dresses all belted down tight at the waist to create an hour glass figure out of the fashion model bodies. The colours were a world away from the muted colours usually reserved by Armani, this time citing David Bowie as an inspiration. Shocking pinks, tangerines and feather boa’s in a rainbow of colour was a refreshing change.

But what took my breathe away was the fabulously stunning sparkly cocktail and red carpet gowns with a plunging sweetheart neckline. The dresses were covered in shiny beads, crystals and sequins so that the dresses seemed blinded you in the spotlight.

The fabrics were cut in such a way that the dresses seemed to flow down the long and lean figures that were walking them down the catwalk like a second skin. No doubt we'll be seen many of these dresses at the Oscars next year.

With his rock inspired collection, Armani added shawls and boas made of brightly coloured plums and feathers to spicing up his signature pieces. Many pieces had other matching accessories, like crystal encrusted hats, matching clutches and divine little heels.

So what more can I say about the cocktail dresses? The crystals and sparkles has me behaving a lot like a magpie, I want them all. Well except for the fingerless, studded gloves – if I wanted them I’d buy a Lagerfeld designed one. I wonder which piece Cate Blanchett, who was sitting front row at the show, will be wearing at her next red carpet event…
