Haute Couture: Valentino Autumn/Winter 2008 collection

Valentino broke a haute couture tradition and took his autumn winter 2007/08 collection home to Rome after a 17 year absence. And he didn’t disappoint is fans, with a 64 look collection (usually couture collections consist of no more than 40 looks) featuring his trademark lipstick red gowns taking centre stage at a 12th century basilica near the Vatican.

Valentino drew on the symbols of the Italian "dolce vita" - opera, glamorous gowns and gelato – as his inspiration for the show, with pretty pastel dresses resembling scoops of ice cream accenting waists, shoulders and sleeves.

Gorgeous floor skimming gowns glittered with diamante detail, trimmed with ruffles and lace embellishments. This was a show that was quintessentially Valentino, I would love to wear the purple gown (pictured below) on a red carpet.
