I can't begin to tell you how excited I was when I read about Topshop's new online 'Archive' collection. They've been known for some time now to have a pretty impressive vintage section in store, but they've stepped it up a notch with this online collection, perhaps not to be left behind by Miss Selfridge's recent online vintage store. Topshop's new range "showcases the cream of 60's and 70's fashion from the British High Street, along with a top-of-the-chocolate-box selection from international influences."
I've featured my favourites from great designers of the British heyday of fashion designers, and they've certainly come up trumps. The 'Empire Seam' dress (far left) is by Biba, who we all know have had a recent and well received comeback. This goes to show how much current trends are lending from the sixties, with maxi-dress cuts and delicate floral pattern. This dress features a lavish bow on the back too, spicing up the demure style.
The second of my choices comes from one of the most important designers in British fashion, Mary Quant. Still a hit with mod girls across the country, Quant was the inventor of the original mini skirt which symbolises the sixties so well. This smock dress is angelic all over apart from that risque hemline, which makes it for me.
Finally, this rockabilly style dress is by Radley. Something about the polka dots separates this dress from the recent dotty revival and the unusual neckline at the back of the dress is fantastic. With the nature of vintage buys these dresses are one offs and are only available in one size - UK 6, UK 8 and UK 8 respectively.
