I'm almost at the end of my tether and I know I'm definitely not the only one. A lot of things seem to be rather crazy at the moment in Britain but high on the list is the weather.
As a fashion blog, we try our best to help you guys try to work out exactly what to pull out of your wardrobes even in the most indecisive of weather conditions but as of today, I throw my hands up in despair. For it seems, whichever way I go with my clothing choices right now, I'm wrong. Then again, that's what you get when you have 20 different seasonal changes all in one day.
Is it wet? Cold? Warm? Windy? Sunny? Um... it's actually all of the above, plus more. I keep lusting after cute shorts, summer skirts and playsuits and wonder when exactly I'm actually going to get a chance to wear any of it. Images of nautical holiday wear teases me as I gaze out of my rain-soaked window which battles with the office fan in the fight to decide whether it's hot or cold. I've been caught in the downpour of London rain more than I'd care to reveal (and that's still with a brolly). Sweating profusely in my ballet pumps is getting beyond the joke but I just can't bare to face a return to my winter boots after so many months while my sandals remain untouched. All together now "grrrrr...!"
Like I said, I know I'm definitely not the only one here. So what do we do in times such as these? We compromise of course. Gemma, CQ's editor-in-chief, has recently been forced to accept leggings into her life after months of denial just so she can still wear her endless closet of dresses (it's simply too hot for tights). Last week, I was often seen begrudgingly with a pashmina draped around my shoulders just to keep the cool chill off (yet it was simply too warm for a jacket), this was my compromise.
Other items you may like to consider if you're just as fed up as the rest of us are:
- Light jacket / trenches: Not quite the thick winter coats that you've been desperate to shed but a light cover such as a denim jacket or trench will help keep the cool breeze off.
- Pashmina: A great alternative to a jacket.
- Leggings: We know that everyone is over them and the fashion rags are telling us that they're long gone but how else can we get away with wearing a dress right now?
- Hats: Trilby, baker boy you name it, whatever style is going give it a go. They're a saviour from frizzy hair caused by the current humid/tropical conditions. I'm sorry are we in Thailand?
As for shoes, well... this is perhaps the trickiest fashion item to solve right now. 'Breathable' flats, for example those made from canvas, seem to be our best option. However, these aren't very practical if the heavens decide to open up. I'm trying my best not to suggest Crocs but perhaps they're one of the few realistic options right now... I know I'm going to regret that comment later.

I'm sure I don't need to remind you to always keep a brolly on hand. Preferably a durable one if you don't want to learn the hard way... like me! Other than that, keep praying that Mother Nature will soon give in and finally allow summer to arrive.
