Zara's smocks and sandals boost profits to £135 million
Even with their tiny sizing and super-long leg length, Spanish chain Zara has helped its parent company to post £135 million in profit in the first three months of the year. Twice-weekly deliveries, fantastic smock dresses and high fashion catwalk copies have been named as the reasons for the huge profit surge, but we also think a lot of it probably has to do with the current fad for luxury fabrics (half of the stuff in Zara at the moment is silk or chiffon) and embellished or printed dresses over more simple items. The price point of your average Zara shift dress is now about £60... compare that to last year's £10 Primark polka dot tea dress. No wonder the money is rolling in!
