Menswear students share Gold Award at Graduate Fashion Week

The future looks bright for menswear if last night's Graduate Fashion Week Awards Gala is anything to go by. This year the prestigious River Island Gold Award went to not one but two deserving winners. Joint recipients Nicolas Thomas from UWE Bristol and Jasper Chadprajong from Ravensbourne College of Design & Communication were shocked to learn they had both won the Gold Award for their menswear collections last night. A last minute change to the format meant there was no longer a separate Menswear and Womenswear Award but a Runner-Up Award and the Gold Award.

The two students from Bristol and Ravensbourne College will receive £10,000 pounds each for their winning collections. Nicolas Thomas' colourful knitwear for men (above) grabbed the judge's attention as did Jasper Chadprajong whose interesting take on sportswear (below) was enough to earn him the big prize.

After the Gala, we bumped into Jasper who relayed to us an amusing tale regarding his show. Apparently when showing his collection to the judges in the morning he was horrified to learn that his designs were too big for the male models so it was decided to use female models instead. This was at the suggestion of Alber Elbaz, Lanvin artist director, himself! Check out the differences between the male and female model wearing the same design above. I guess it didn't harm his chances of winning at all! [Images: Catwalking.com]

I find it incredible that this website has no coverage of the UWE Bristol show especially as the Gold award prize went to a Bristol student is there any reason for this????????
