Why it sucks to shop in the UK part 1,034

Blah blah, Topshop, blah blah, high street, blah blah, New Look, blah, Primark, blah. I know we're not exactly hard done by in this country for affordable fashion, but take a look at this, my dear American friends, before you complain that we've got better shopping than you...

Exhibit A, a top from Warehouse that I've been coveting for months. The price? £40 (though it is 100% silk). On the right? Forever 21's alternative. It's 100% polyester, yes, but it's also only $17.80 (about £10). For a top you'll only wear a few times, I know which price I'd rather pay. It's not the first time this has happened, either. There's a $22 alternative to a £50 Oasis dress too, and lest we forget the Diane VonFurstenberg debacle.

I just can't believe those tops are EXACTLY the same!! (Aside from the material but whatever!)

Why bother buying something you'll only wear a few times anyway? No matter what it costs, that's a waste of money.

  • Yep, meaning we're ripped off on a daily basis shopping in our own country.

How about "Why It Sucks To Shop In The UK" from an American viewpoint? The exchange rate is in Britain's favor; you guys can buy goods from the U.S. and even pay shipping but nothing will cost as much as it does for us when we visit. 40 pounds to Brits is 80 dollars to Americans.

Yeah, but with the hot weather coming up I would WAY rather wear silk than polyester!

OTOH, most silk tops turn out to be lined with polyester or acrylic anyway...
