Vogue June 07 featuring Agyness Deyn

Ah a British model that isn’t Kate Moss on the cover of British Vogue. About time right? Sure you can argue that Lily Donaldson and Lily Cole are British models that have appeared on the cover of Vogue, but this cover with Agyness Deyn just looks so funky/cool that it definitely makes you look twice. The bright pink and overexposed light is intriguing.

What do you think?

I love Agyness Dean! I don't know why. Nevertheless, I quite like that Vogue is trying to represent the new, young British fashion industry. This whole nu-rave scene is pretty fadish and she might be a flash-in-the-pan but I've seen Agyness in other campaigns and she's amazing. As for the cover, a little originality wouldn't go amiss...

Lou's right, Italian Vogue is a lot more chic but Britain's is home to the world's greatest avant garde designers and lots of up and coming talent. I'm inclined to think that British Vogue (home of Cartier Polo and interviews with the American Ambassador) is finding it difficult to balance luxury with all the talent coming out of bedsits in Shoreditch.

I like it. Nice, bright and summery... Oh well if she isn't perfect, means there is hope for the rest of us!

She was on the front of the Telegraph magazine as well.

But here her face looks all flat and plastic...and her left eye is flat too.

Whilst I applaud Vogue UK for continuing to use models instead of celebrities [Anna Wintour take note], I wish they would take more of a risk with their covers. The December 2006 composition of covers spanning Vogues history is a reminder of how iconic and bold their cover images used to be. I want a headshot with WOW factor. I dont want to see all that horrible text clouding the cover. Vogue should be able to sell itself by the cover image and its name alone not by a list of what is inside [hey, thats what the contents page is for!] I wish Alexandra Shulman would look to Vogue Italia for a little inspiration sometimes.

As for that cover in particular. Im not a huge fan of Agyness [just another "flavour of the month" and a poor one at that if you ask me] but I was prepared to give it a fair chance. My initial thought when I saw it is that the image is unnecessarily bright. I guess I can see what they are trying to achieve but it misses the mark. Nothing grabs me and makes me go "wow!" One of the images from Elise's editorial would have been much more effective.

On the whole i felt this was quite a poor issue. A bit thin on content and the editorials were not up to much. I like to read Vogue from cover to cover but nothing really inspired me to do that this month.
