Television BAFTA's - Janet Street Porter

For every amazing red carpet outfit (see Ashley Jensen) there's a red carpet disaster and Janet Street-Porter provides us with this years major fashion faux-pas.

At last nights Television BAFTA's she wore a jewelled Burberry Prosum dress with purple leggings and flip-flops. She surely confirmed the end of leggings?

I actually really like the dress, and its certainly on trend with the metallic look but I'm sure there's an age restriction on high fashion? and purple leggings?!

You have no idea how annoyed I was seeing Janet Street Porter in a beautiful Burberry Porsum dress.

She has ruined the beauty of it.

Imagine it on a gorgeous young slim starlet, then looka at her in it.

    Bad bad bad.

Perhaps you mean trendiness has an age limit? Part of what makes older women beautiful is they know who they are and what works for them. They don't need to try everything new, unlike a younger woman who is still searching for her fashion identity. Porter's fashion life experience should have steered her away from this.

  • I'm 23 and think I'm too old for purple leggings. Especially with flip flops.

Yes I would generally agree with that trend but rules are there to be broken and we shouldn't restrict fashion or make it an exclusive club dicteted by age and size (even if you are over 60!)(and this may be my second time round with a maxi dress...) I think it's a case by case decision (for instance I wouldn't wear fluro but would wear black leggings under a mid calf dress or skirt even though I wore them in the 80's) I know that Kate Moss isn't high fashion and I do agree that Janet SP hadn't pulled it off but I don't think it's an age thing - I think it was a combining it all thing and too much of a quirky look thing - something that many are guilty of whatever their age!

I apologise for any offence I might have caused however, high fashion items are often unflattering and are laughed about as mistakes ten years later. Generally I'd apply the rule of, "If you wore a trend the first time around, you shouldn't wear it the second time it comes back into style".

Also, Janet Street-Porter is over sixty, I am not suggesting that anybody over 18 is too old. She has picked two notoriously difficult trends (metallic and leggings) and unfortunately, in my opinion, has not pulled it off this time. Besides, Kate Moss for Topshop was hardly high fashion...
