Nicole Richie's party for girls under 100lbs

richieskinnyparty.jpgIt was meant to be joke party invite that got leaked to the public. But instead Nicole Richie is now facing the public backlash about her Memorial Day Party.

According to Contact Music the invite stipulated that party attendees needed to "Celebrate our country by drinking massive amounts of beer," adding, "There will be a scale at the front door. No girls over 100 pounds allowed in. Start starving yourself now.” Later Richie went on US radio to say it was all a joke. "It's a private email... to my friends, I was joking and I don't think there's anything wrong with it... I think that it's funny,” she says.

What do you think? With one friend (Lindsay Lohan) in rehab again, another (Mischa Barton) apparently hospitalized for mixing alcohol and antibiotics, and her best friend (Paris Hilton) off to prison, it wasn’t the funniest email to send out.

Honestly I don't think it's that bad. Considering she's suffered from an eating disorder herself and gotten herself as drunk as she stipulates in the email, I think the party invitation was laughing at herself as much as anything.

I think it's funny. Cheeky, kind of, like she's poking fun at herself and her reputation.

I don't think she's poking fun at anorexia, drugs or alcohol problems. She's just having a laugh about all the negative press there is about her. And it was supposed to be a private email....who hasn't written an email to friends that we wouldn't be mortified if everyone saw?

I agree with what everyone else has said so far, especially that it was a private email that was never intended for the press. And surely with all the mania surrounding Richie and her friends, I think she almost has to make fun or else she'd cry.
