No queues for Lily Allen at New Look...

lilyqueue.jpg
Well, she's obviously no Kate Moss when it comes to pulling in the crowds. This was the scene at five to ten this morning at the New Look flagship store, just before the doors opened and the Lily Loves collection went on sale. Most of the people stood outside were journalists and photographers, with only a handful of shoppers waiting to get their hands on the goods. There was no running and no pushing, and everyone got what they were after...

The ironic thing is, as far as I'm concerned the small collection of Lily dresses offers up much more for your average shopper than Kate's collection. As a curvy girl with a wardrobe full of girly dresses, the range really appealed to me - and I'm definitely not a Lily Allen fan.

We bought some of the dresses for video reviews, which you'll see later in the day. The general consensus is that they're surprisingly well made, the fabrics are much better than the ones used in Kate's range, and overall they're much better value for money (the most expensive dress is £55). However, this is a range that's aimed at a specific type of dresser. If the frilly prom dress or silky shift isn't your cup of tea, you're likely to wonder what the hell everyone is raving about. I had great fun dancing around the office in calf-length floral frills when I got back, though....

Well there were queues outside the Liverpool branch and the Manchester one had almost sold out of the prom dresses.

Went to one of my local stores today around midday and there was still lots left. There were 2 of the gorgeous £55 olive green dress left (my fave of the collection by far), the dress is stunning and well-made (boned, lined etc), but unfortunately it didn't fit me (I was very upset!!). There were plenty of the other dresses left (saw someone buying the blue one and floral flamenco one), plus lots of the trainers and peep-toes.

I also agree that while I actually don't like Lily Allen, I love the designs and once I saw them, I was a bit like "Kate Moss who?"

I rushed out at lunch time to buy the green olive frill dress after spotting it in Grazia last night.
In Glasgow the most popular sizes like 8s, 10s and 12s were nearly all gone but when asked the assistants went for a rummage downstairs and got me my size. Totally chuffed to bits. The dresses are all very well made and good value for money. I couldn't believe the weight in the green dress! The shoes are also fab and by the time I had left the shop there were only a few pairs left. People in Glasgow definately liked the range much more than the Kate Moss offering which, it has to be said, is really expensive for what you get. You could spit peas through some of the pieces that are more expensive than those at New Look.

I was at the Liverpool Store for 9am and there was no que. Once the doors opened the Lily Allen Range was still in boxes. The shop assistants hadn’t even bothered to unpack it in time for the shops opening. I had to hang around waiting for them to get the stock out. After waiting 45 mins, only a couple of items had been unwrapped and where available to buy. It was very disappointing as Liverpool had a very limited amount of the collection. None of the signature frilly prom dresses where available in store – Liverpool store obviously had no confidence in the Lily Allen range

I am glad that the crowds weren't there. Who wants to be a Kate Moss or Madonna clone! I like Lily's style. Makes me wish I was 22 again! She adds fun and individuality. Some of us are tired of fashion elitism.

Which Liverpool store did you go to Vicky? The one in Clayton Square? I also got there at 9am and it was all out on hangers and the window display was done so it can't have been the same one. There were bout 10 people outside waiting too.

I spoke to the shop assistant and she said the reason they didn't have the prom dresses was because the full range was only available in the bigger stores like Manchester. I just hopped over to Manchester and got the two prom dresses I want, beautiful dresses!
