
The Costume Institutes's Gala is all about accompanying a designer and getting to wear their best frock... so, where do I sign up? This can sometimes go wonderfully well (e.g. Lindsay Lohan with Brian Atwood above, right) or have shockingly bad consequences (e.g. Jessica Simpson with Roberto Cavalli above, left). Simpson's erm... assets were right there on display yesterday as she strapped herself into this sparkly Cavalli gown resembling a Page 3 girl rather than a teenage girl's pop icon. I wonder what her father and manager Jo Simpson would have to say about this latest Jessica Rabbit move? On the other hand, Lindsay Lohan looked a million dollars in this Bally gown along with designer Brian Atwood. Despite pictures of her allegedly taking cocaine hitting British tabloids over the weekend, Lohan kept up a brave face as she took to the red carpet.

Last week, she was buddies with Louis Vuitton hosting a charity event in the label's honor and this week it's Stella McCartney who has Scarlett Johansson's (below, left) attention. The pair, together with Amber Valletta cosied up for the paps with Johansson wearing a McCartney bubble dress.

Hilary Swank (above, right) wasn't missing out on any designer action by rocking up to the MET with Donatella Versace. The Oscar winner looked amazing in this plum halter-neck gown with drop waist. However, she could have tried a little harder with her hair.

'Best on show' has to go to Lucy Lui (above) who arrived at yesterday's gala with Zac Posen and wearing one of his most amazing designs. This purple floor-length gown has the most incredible train I have ever seen and definitely had tongues wagging. I want, I want!
