Kate Moss - the aftermath

laura.jpg
I went to Kate Moss for Topshop - and survived! I joined Kim in the queue which ran down the side of Miss Selfridge (and around all three corners of the store by the time it launched) around 3pm. There were only about twenty people there at that point, everybody sitting on the floor excited about the imminent collection launch. However, the numbers quickly increased and we were encouraged to stand up to "make more space". The security were quite abrupt, but if you complained they'd simply say, "You chose to queue". Hmm. Fair point.

We were provided with sweets, popcorn and water quite regularly and continually asked questions by the press including, "Why are you here?" Well....
At six o'clock we were given our long-awaited wrist bands that allowed us in to the store at 8pm for twenty minutes!!! A lot of excitement, followed by the realisation that we still had another two hours to go. Boo! We were pretty cold by this point, and having to borrow cardigans from our fellow CQ's.
As it got nearer to eight o'clock we were edged closer and closer to the main entrance which was swamped by photographers and members of the public hoping to gain a glimpse of the world famous supermodel.
For the final hour, Kim and I were actually fearing for our safety due to the high number of people and wondering if it was such a great idea after all, but so close to actually getting in to the store we soldiered on. The security was very tight, we were warned against pushing, shoving, running with the threat of getting thrown out, which was very reassuring. When it FINALLY turned 8pm we were police escorted in to Topshop and continually encouraged not to push, we had to have our wristband in the air to confirm our day long dedication to the launch.
There were photographers everywhere inside the actual store and Lauren Laverne provided commentary whilst we shopped to loud 60's pop. Kim and I had a game plan so it was quite a quick dash but the Topshop staff were on hand to help us find what we were looking for and assist finding the correct size. The organisation of the whole event was amazing, trilby's off to Topshop for their tight security, clear rules and helpful staff.
I actually really enjoy these kind of events. I know that makes me a complete loser and i didnt particularly enjoy the waiting round but the buzz surrounding it was amazing. It's very surreal, especially when we were informed that there were around three thousand people queuing up behind us and we were in the first ten. The adrenaline was flowing as we searched for five pieces each, barely checking which size we'd picked up. I got the stripey hot pants and waistcoat, inky blue waistcoat dress, floral dress and tattoo print dress. There was nothing in the collection that we hadn't already seen in various glossy magazines. There were a lot of t-shirts, vests, jeans etc which despite being signature Moss items did not seem to warrant their higher than normal price tags. The red jeans which Kim bought are really nice, and apparently very comfortable but they're too similar to Topshop's B jeans.
Having tried on many of the items this morning at Shiny towers I feel that maybe the collection did not quite live up to the hype. A couple of the items that we have are really nice but the majority is nothing amazing. I was very excited about the black mini dress with cut out detail but when I tried it on, it felt like a sack. It wasn't a flattering cut and was far too short, I felt very self conscious so definitely would not be brave enough to wear it out (unless over jeans/leggings). The floral dress was gorgeous and probably the most reasonably priced item (£45). I also liked the full length waistcoat dress but the cut left a lot to be desired. I would wear the stripey waistcoat over a shirt with jeans but the fit (again) is quite random so I'd have to try on several sizes.

My advice? Try everything on. No two items seem to have the same sizing.
