Kate Moss for Topshop - a closer look at the striped hotpants and waistcoat

waistcoat1.jpg
Very few people in this world have a bum small enough to pull off a tiny pair of sailor-button striped hotpants, but luckily we have Isabelle on hand to give it a good go. Looking "a bit like the ringmaster" (or Sally Bowles, I thought) our girl had great fun posing - complete with jazz hands - in one of the most difficult outfits to pull off, Kate's mustard and black striped backless waistcoat and hotpants. We had to add the hat for comedy value...

As those of you who've followed the collection will know, there was a jacket finish this ensemble off, but as we could only buy 5 items each we gave that a miss. We actually all love the shorts despite the fact they will suit about 1% of the country. These are a size ten, and I'm tempted to suggest Topshop don't make them in any bigger sizes (as much as I love my curves, I understand they don't look good in everything). This is definitely a piece for slim, confident women.

The waistcoat ties across the back three times with big grosgrain ribbons (you'll see this better in the video later today) meaning you can - to some extent - 'tailor' it to fit. However, we realised there was a happy medium somewhere. Tie it too tight and even the skinniest girl gets flesh piling out above, loosen it and it gapes at the front. There must be a girl out there who fits into these Kate Moss waistcoats perfectly...sadly she's not Isabelle or Laura!

The general consensus chez CQ is that these items - while good on their own - look a bit too costumey when worn together. We'd perhaps add a shirt under the waistcoat or wear the shorts with a plain black top for a slightly easier to wear look. And ditch the hat, of course!

Ugly together, much better on their own.

No offence to the model but those shorts are definately made for the lean and skinny.

Emma - Isabelle is barely even a size 10.

That is very rude...I don't care if this is the internet, would you walk up to her on the street and say that?

BTW, she has a great figure.

the girl modelling them is obviously far from fat, you can tell she's slim but that outfit is horribly unflattering. Infact everything I've seen from this collection is just awful and it's purely because some people have bought into the media hype that is Kate Moss that it will sell. Personally I would rather spend my money on clothes that are better made, better designed and far more flattering. But then as I think Kate Moss looks like she gets dressed in the dark most of the time the idea of buying anything that looks like a reject from her wardrobe fills me with horror.

It seems that the people who are unimpressed with the range are the ones who dont understand that Kate Moss acquires her style with simple, understated pieces. Its those who lack the imagination to put outfits together to look effortlessly great. Ultimately though, if you are really that desperate to capture Kate Moss’ essence, the biggest tip is to just do YOUR OWN THING.

Oh come on! People are unimpressed because it is ugly, unflattering, made out of cheap matterials and completely overpriced.

Oh no. I'm not at all impressed with these prices, or the clothes themselves. If I wanted some /nice/ expensive clothes I'd go to Monsoon.

LOL. Monsoon? Why? So you can look like every other Chav in a prom dress?
