Kate Moss for Topshop - a closer look at the formal dresses

What else could you expect from a blog obsessed with red carpet fashion than a chance to see the more formal Kate Moss offerings close-up. We were very, very lucky to get our hands on the same red dress that La Moss wore in the window of Topshop a few hours earlier. We also managed to snag my favourite piece from the range, the bias-cut inky coloured dress with a waistcoat top. It's a tad big around the hips on Laura, but I still think it looks great, especially teamed with our trilby...

The red dress (£195, though we seem to have been charged £150) is likely to be one of the most difficult items in the collection to get hold of, so we're glad we managed to grab one. There was limited stock of 100 of these, and this dress is actually number 12. You can see from the picture of Kim that it's very long (remember she's 5'10) and we found that to be the case with both full-length dresses. The fabric is a very naff-looking red mesh, which we've been frightened of tearing the whole time! It looks better on than it does on the hanger. The frills make it very heavy, meaning it hangs well, but the skimpy fabric leaves little to the imagination, even with it's satin slip underdress! The seaming on the front is supposed to be a design detail but we weren't sure about it. It's definitely a talking-point dress, but you'll need to be very body confident and willing to go commando to really pull it off.

The inky coloured dress (£75) with the backless waistcoat top is probably my favourite item, though we did wonder on trying it on if it would have been better as two separate pieces. The bottom is a fairly generous bias-cut satin skirt, the top a skimpy tie-back waistcoat. The problem with tops like this is they're not made for girls with boobs, so we found with this and also the tie-back striped waistcoat you'll see later, that they have a tendency to fit a bit oddly (definitely try these on if you can before buying). You'll be able to see on our video later on just how detailed the back is, which is what I loved the most about it.

  • A one-shoulder sleeveless dress? Why do I have my doubts that’s ever been in use by CMs? Love the fabric though.

Laura is cute and so is Isabelle but somehow the whole Moss fashion line does not seem to be made for "normal" people, I think the are tailored to look good on Kate Moss; she introduces them to the public, everyone runs to get a piece, can't really try it on in your own time and once you are at home you realise that you spent a lot of money for clothes that have a bad cut and are made for waifs.

Both dresses are still available at Oxford Circus - the red dress also comes in blue and a horrible fluoro yellow...
