Brave new world - High waisted jeans

meee.jpg

I queued for hours to try on these high waisted jeans from Primark, I then queued for even longer to buy them. But at a bargalicious £12, can you really complain? I was so fed up by the time I got to the changing room that I don't think i even looked in the mirror properly, just decided that they fit and that was good enough.

Being as committed to the cause as I am, I tried out the trend in the most extreme way possible with a tucked in vest top and flat shoes. (I am a size 12 by the way, nowhere near Kate Moss size.)

Just wearing them makes you stand up very straight and it seems almost impossible to slouch. (Because they are a very cheap pair, they are not very well fitted to the body so didn't really do me any favours.) Essentially, they are just jeans so wearing them in public isn't going to cause any embarrassment. They were quite a long length, even on me and I'm 5'8", but I found that made them slightly more forgiving.

In general I thought that they made my bum looks much larger than it needed to but did elongate my legs, the following day I wore with a long top and found them to be much more flattering.

I don't think they looked at all flattering with a tucked in top, in fact, Gemma suggested that I looked like a "seventies Mum", which is the most accurate way to describe the look.
In conclusion, they don't look very complimentary and they're quite uncomfortable. Wearing with a longer top definitely made a difference and then you benefit from all the good aspects, including no risk of a 'builders bum' situation.

You don't look that bad in them, but it is definitely not a trend most people should wear. High waists should be left to the runway models.

what's the point of wearing a long top with high-waisted jeans though?

I think you look good in them! I'm sure in real life as well they look much better

You look better in them than I did in the pair of black high waisters I tried in New Look today. They looked like something a clown would wear! And did not fit well at the waist even though they fitted perfectly in all the 'normal' places. Not a trend I'll be following I'm afraid!

I think they can work, but only if they have a wide leg. The skinny jean with a high waist isn't really doing favours for anyone.

I'm fairly sure that getting the cheapest pair out there didn't help much in the case for high-waisted jeans.

Personally highwaist is the only type of jean i will wear.

Try a knock off pair from Stop Staring. While not super expensive they flatter like mad. And they are not nearly as ill fitting as those found in cheap shops (H&M high-waisted jeans were a terror in poor engineering) Also vintage will do well by you since they are made properly...

"what's the point of wearing a long top with high-waisted jeans though?"

To hide the high waist. Since I have a short, thick waist, I wear high-waisted jeans to suck me in, but I have to wear a long top so I don't end up looking like a gnome.

I dont think you look that bad in them. I would defiantley chose a diffrent top, more like a shirt. But I got those high waisters, from primark to. There lush and I think everybody should wear them. Its a hight of fashion. My friend has got shorts high waisters from priamrk they are very nice to.

I would mabey wear a white shirt with a brown belt you'r high waisters and mabey brown ugg boots. Try getting ure outfit to match a bit.

All hail the high(er)-waisted straight leg jean. Finally, a style that I can wear that doesn't leave a gap at my waist large enough to hold a small child, koala-bear style :) I have hips - not gigantic, but I had a baby, so there are hips. And, I have a long, relatively small waist and short legs. So, low rise jeans made me look like a garden gnome. NOT attractive at all...
