Beth Ditto takes it all off for NME

bethdittonme.jpgUnsurprisingly Beth Ditto posing nude for the latest cover for NME magazine has not gone unnoticed. As we have discovered here on Catwalk Queen over recent months, Ditto is both loved and loathed by many. Rumours that she may design a collection for Topshop, following in the footsteps of Kate Moss whom she has a love/hate relationship with, sparked much debate right here on CQ. So I'm sure this latest move of hers will drum up just as much conversation.

Apparently Germaine Greer supports Ditto stripping off for the music rag, how about you?

Why?

Posted by: Sophie | May 31, 2007 6:40 PM

Why not?

If other people can graze the covers and pages of mags semi clad, or completly nude, why shouldn't she?
Whats wrong with seeing different body sizes in publications?

Why? She's a terrible example of large beauty. Anyone can see that Ditto is morbidly obese and needs to lose weight at least for her health if not her looks; she seems to like making statements with her body.

I think she looks great and it makes a change from seeing very thin women. She is probably more representative of the size 16 that most women in the UK are

call me ignorant/ biased / or hateful but she's not a decent example of a 'plus' sized woman - in my mind she furthers a yuckky stereotype about larger people/
she's all flab and no tone - and not all larger people are built like that. More queen latifa and less of her please.

i'm a plus-sized girl, and i find it somewhat reassuring that beth ditto is out there being who she is.

i cannot imagine that anyone looks at her figure as something to aspire to, and nobody would imagine it is healthy. but she does make me think that maybe i don't need to hide under a rock to avoid being sneered at, after all. regardless of her shape, her confidence is something to admire.

i wish she would design a range for TS, too. it would be nice to go in there to look at something other than the shoes.

Oh Beth, how I love thee. Considering her height/weight ratio, she does look good. They've probaby tidied up the odd stretch mark, but no worse than any other cover model.

I think she looks hot :)

that pics looks like it's been worked on A LOT! She normally looks way fatter than that!

She is promoting an image that is not healthy. Fine, she can do what she likes and she's obviously happy with herself but it is bs saying that it's good for similar sized people and their confidence- when you are her size confidence is no longer an issue, you're killing yourself.

can she not shave her armpits?!

Posted by: jaide | June 1, 2007 3:46 PM

She chooses not to. Ick.

'when you are her size confidence is no longer an issue, you're killing yourself'.

The same can be said for too thin models, everyone who smokes, anyone who takes class A drugs and the reckless fools who drive cars. You can give yourself a heart attack just by being too uptight. I don't see all those people having crises of confidence because of their recognition of their frailty and mortality - do you?

I think she looks great, and it's a big confidence boost to anyone who doesn't look like a model - which is most of us.

On the health debate - I don't think 'holier than thou' helps anyone. Confident, happy people tend look after themselves better - and it's ALWAYS a good thing if someone can help other people to be happier and more confident.

Go Beth GO!
