Alber Elbaz, Kate Moss and Tyra Banks among Time's '100 Most Influential People'
Fashion was not forgotten this year in Time magazine's annual '100 Most Influential People In The World' list. Alber Elbaz, artistic director of Lanvin and judge at this year's Graduate Fashion Week, was recognised for his contribution to fashion design. Lanvin cemented himself globally when he received the CFDA's International Designer Award in 2005. Kate Moss' ability to remain hip is what helped her gain a spot on the Time list. "She sells stuff—or, rather, she makes consumers want to buy it. But unlike most other people who move merch, she doesn't do it by being particularly likable, or knowable, or warm or voluble. She does it simply by being in close proximity to a product while fixing her wide-set eyes on a camera," said Time's Art editor Belinda Luscombe.
Meanwhile Tyra Banks, a model of a different nature, made in onto Time's list not for her achievements on the catwalk but her efforts towards promoting healthy body image. Her daytime chat show and foundation TZone, has given her a platform to confront issues surrounding weight and young women. "We are lucky that she believes what she is telling other girls and young women—that she is far, far more than just a body in a bathing suit," said American writer Naomi Wolf. Hear, hear! [source]
