Ten things we discovered at the Kate Moss for Topshop launch

1. You can't really look like Kate Moss wearing Topshop. The fabrics leave a lot to be desired.
2. Big sunglasses are a must in queues on hot days. Particularly when teamed with little boho smock dresses. Honest.
3. Topshop know how to organise a launch. No queues at the checkouts, plenty of stock and free popcorn and drinks. But we were at the front of the line...
4. Bought £500 worth of stuff? Get a cab home, the Kate Moss bags scream 'mug me'.
5. Kate Moss for Topshop is cut for Kate Moss types. Beware if you're curvy...

6. The red dress that looks so fab on Kate? Looks like a nightie in real life (watch this space)
7. Kate Moss gets to smoke INSIDE the Topshop store. If we did that we'd get kicked out.
8. How come Philip Green's daughter gets the white dress, but we all have to wait 2 weeks?
9. Lauren Laverne is veeeery tall. And GMTV's Mark Hayes is really, really, reeeaally lovely.
10. There are a lot of girls out there who want fame, and they'll queue for eight hours dresses like Peaches Geldof in order to acheive it.

:-) thanks for the live updating

are the fabrics typical of topshops usual line [quality wise]?

Seconded, what are the fabrics like? I'm endlessly disappointed to find that many gorgeous dresses and tops are made of viscose or polyester... any natural fibres? (also, am I the only one who wants natural fibres any more?)

Similarly, what's the general quality?

Thanks for posting, it's been interesting to know what I could have been doing if I cared a tiny bit more :)

We'll be doing proper in-depth reviews tomorrow, but general consensus is the fabrics are cheap considering the cosyt, finishing isn't brilliant and most stuff is overpriced. But this IS the high street.

That said, there are some stand out pieces that we love - the yellow dress, the long inky coloured dress with the waistcoat top and hot pants (oh, to have the bum for those) and the red jeans with embroidery are cute.

Newcastle launch was an anti-climax. We had no popcorn or lollies and what's worse... we barely had any stock. I was 9th in the queue and couldn't get THE black dress - all gone. Didn't even have the red gladiators, no yellow dress, only red jeans, no leather jacket, no white off the shoulder dress. Total let down, damn those marketing managers. Staff were ace but all they really had was the trade mark vests and tees, as if we didn't know or deserve any any better.

The online collection is a bit rubbish if you are not 18, 6' and size 8 (or Kate Moss), the marketing was second to none though. It's a shame Jane Shepherdson left over this; Topshop just isn't the same without her!

I found the collection to be a smart pick for Topshop, heaven knows it needs to try harder; however, it wasn't all that great. Kate Moss may wear clothes well, but who really believes that she can actually design? The fabrications were typical for Topshop. I did notice that the finishings were horrible! I guess they were on a short time frame, which is why stores did not have everything (like Newcastle). Also, viscose is a natural fibre....polyester isn't. They use viscose nowdays b/c it is like silk, can be made many ways and retains no heat (great for the summer) and "surprise", harms the environment less than cotton (water shortage damages are from cotton fields).
