Jean Muir label closes
Fashion label Jean Muir is closing after the company failed to find substantial investment to expand the label. After her death from breast cancer in 1995 Muir's husband Harry Leuckert took over directorship of the company, opening their first store in Conduit Street, London. Leuckert announced in January: “It is with great regret and sadness that I am making this announcement. For the past decade I have enjoyed watching a great team continue the work of Jean Muir and I am pleased with the exceptional success of our own shop."
The last day of the company will be the 20th of April, which will be the end of the company monikered the "British Chanel". ” It is sad," said Leuckert, "but I think this is the way Jean would have wanted it. I believe there is a virtue in quitting while we are ahead and leaving her name untarnished.”
