Guilty Galliano - designer fined over plagiarism

john.jpgNaughty John Galliano... The designer has just been ordered to pay £140,000 to photographer William Klein, after being found guilty of copying one of Klein's trademark techniques (painting over a photograph) in an advertising campaign. Tut, tut! While Klein has declared himself "bitter" and "angry" at the plagiarism, Galliano continues to plead innocence, claiming that although he was "inspired" by Klein's work, he did not set out to deliberately copy it. All of the images have now been withdrawn, but Galliano's lawyers are to appeal against the judges decision.

This is ridiculous, I'm SURE Klein got the idea from someone else, maybe not as famous... It's in the same line of stupid as if DVF sued someone for making a version of the wrap dress, or Hedi Slimane suing someone for making slim cut suits! Would be totally hilarious if someone came up and started accusing HIM of plagiarism.

You can trademark painting on a photo?
