Catwalk Queen at the opening of Primark, Oxford Street

osprimark1.jpg
As promised, we were up at the crack of dawn and outside the brand new Oxford Street branch of Primark in plenty of time for the 10am opening. We weren't the only ones, of course, with queues stretching across the pavement and onto the road, stopping traffic and causing mayhem for the police officers in charge of controlling the crowd. Doors were broken, pushing was par for the course, and I'm sure those brave enough to actually go into the store probably came away bruised and battered as people pushed their way to the bargains.

I'm about to go and edit the video footage we shot of the event, complete with chat from some of the girls who arrived as early as 7am to get in the queue. While you're waiting, take a look below the cut for more snaps of the madness. Honestly, what some people will do for a bargain...!

This is so ridiculous. It's not as if it's only open for a limited time, or anything. Did they even have special opening prices? Otherwise I'm not sure voluntarily being squeezed into oblivion can be justified! I applaud you on getting the footage though. I remember (back in the day!) when Primark was the epitome of 'uncool' - I've always had one relatively near where I live (back when it was still a 'OneUp'!) so the hysteria surrounding this chain now is amusing.

Argh, I need to go on Saturday and see if they have a pair of pumps I wanted (they didn't have my size in the branch I go to) but judging by the crowd, now I'm thinking all the more popular sizes in everything will be sold out... :s

I was there this morning and it was madness!! I waited about 10 mins to get in and I couldn't breathe! I can't believe a door was broken!! I saw the poor man up on his ladder trying to fix it!

If you're still looking to go today I wouldn't bother. Rails were alreay empty by the time I was leaving and unless they have A LOT oof stock outthe back ready to replenish the rails again then it's not worth your time today.

I got quite a lot this morning though but will be giving the store a wide berth til the hype's died down.

Omg, I don't get what all the fuss is about! Sure Primark has some pretty dresses and cheap basics, but the quality of the clothes is not great and it's really just a 'throwaway fashion' store. I go in if I'm already in town but there is nothing there that could justify three hours queuing just to get squashed!

Oh my gosh look at that crowd!! People, they'll have the same stuff there next week -and you'll be able to see your feet at least!!

I read in the papers that the reason it was so busy was because there were rumours circulated that everything was half off. I can't see any other reason wwhy people would be queueing for that long. It's still gonna be there tommorow after all!

I heard it was only that full because there was a rumour that everything in there was a pound... yeah rite, people are too gullable. Anyway now there is a primark in such a place the prices will slowly but surely creep up but we still love it!

yeah loads of people were saying everything was a pound. i could understand if a new topshop had rumours of an offer like that, but primark? their stuff is only 2-3 quid to begin with! ridiculous.

i don't get the big queues... it's not like it's a special collection or something, the stuff will just be restocked tomorrow and the next day...

I can't believe people were queueing like that to get into the Oxford Street branch when you can so easily go to one of their many other stores! I have to admit though that most of my wardrobe comes from Primark and I am an addict! I'm just worried that they'll open too many new stores and we'll all become Primark clones.....!!!
