Anya Hindmarch's 'I'm not a plastic bag' sells out in Sainsburys

Once again if you were hoping to get your hands on one of Anya Hindmarch's 'I'm not a plastic bag' eco-shoppers then you're out of luck. The bags went on sale at Sainsburys stores this morning and have already sold out. Not hugely surprising since some stores were only stocking up to 30 bags. According to Sainsburys' website there will be no more bags made for the UK market. In the meantime, if you're living in the US and have your heart set on owning one then you better prepare yourself. A limited edition navy blue shopper will be launching in June and if you're in Japan a green version will be available in July. To register your interest visit the Anya Hindmarch website. Managed to get my hands on one in East Dulwich. Turns out they had 240 whereas other friends took to the outskirts and suffered under the 30-bag rule.

And yes they did give the bags away with the option of carrying it in a plastic bag. Ironic, but I fully intend to return all my plastic bags in return for points as always.

As for the bag, I'm not selling it on ebay (unlike the vast majority of people I queued with) since the main pull was Anya (with the bonus of the message) in the first place. Doubt it'll help me for my monthly shops though...

I think the idea of the bags being limited edition was to raise awareness of the plastic bag issue by creating a "must-have" item. I must say I was flabbergasted to find that out of the 30 people who got one at the store I queued at, I was the only one who refused to accept it in a carrier bag.

Friends of mine have seen people carrying one of the bags in one hand & a handful of plastic bags in the other. Defeats the point really!
