Our "other" Aussie writer Helen Lee has posted on her blog Sassybella about the recent outcry over a 15-year-old appearing on the latest issue of Australian Vogue. Katie Braatvedt is the first New Zealand model to be featured on the cover of Australian Vogue in 10 years and according to The Sunday Telegraph, her appearance has sparked criticism from the Family Council of Victoria for being too suggestive. "We have to ask, at what point should we be putting children into adult fashion magazines?'' said Mr Muehlenberg, secretary for the Council.
Vogue Australia editor Kristie Clements defended the decision by saying that they took the model's age into account when choosing to use her. “It’s not sexy or decadent. They’re whimsical, romantic portraits, and I see an incredible, ethereal prettiness in this girl,” she said. With Kate Moss and plenty of others beginning their modelling career at such an early age, is this still deemed appropriate?
Tell us what you think. Should there be an age limit on modelling?
