When art and consumerism collide - that is the store theme currently being launched at Selfridges, which includes selling a bottle of perfume for £40 that actually doesn't smell of anything. Bizarre? Me thinks so, £40 is no small amount particularly when you get nothing in return. The whole idea has been created by art production company Dadadandy who have been allowed to suspend a five-metre inflatable eyeball out the front of Selfridges as well as turning an entire floor into an outlet called This Is Not A Shop. Along with the perfume, the store will also be selling 5 foot-tall pencils and over-sized lollipops with receipts printed using surrealist poetry. "[The perfume] is a dressing table artwork, a collector's item that will appeal to lovers of surrealism and objets d'art," said Karen Wells, Selfridges' head of beauty. "It doesn't even need to be worn," added Paul Heber-Percy, creator behind Dadadandy. A scentless perfume? More like a senseless perfume!
