Muddy floral print dresses

muddydress.JPGIt's perhaps due to my teen years spent scouring charity shops but there's I find something irresistible about slightly off-colour prints. I made a skirt a few years ago using a print fabric which had pink and grey roses; it was very '50s with a hint of '80s. My mum thought it was horrible but I love muddy florals. They remind me of the pretty/disgusting yellowy hue in the sky when there's a storm on it's way. I've picked a few dresses with slightly jarring prints, you might like them, you'll definitely hate at least one of them but then wearing clothes that people hate is the best form of rebellion!

My favourite kind of muddy floral is one like the Marni dress, top right. It's just a traditional floral done in sludgy colours; it reminds me of my gran's wallpaper and looks very retro. Pick out some of the cleaner colours and use them to match or contrast with accessories.
