Inside look in the Chanel workshops

The New Yorker recently commissioned some pictures for a story they did about Karl Lagerfeld. Françoise-Marie Banier snapped the different Chanel couture workshops, showing just how much old-fashioned craftsmanship goes into couture. There's also a funny shot of Lagerfeld negotiating bags with a spotlight on him, looking almost like he's performing in some high-fashion vaudeville act. “I do my job like I breathe,” Lagerfeld told John Colapinto “So if I can’t breathe I’m in trouble!” Click on the image to see full-size version.
