French Connection wrap dress

fcukdress.JPGFrench Connection's 'penny poplin' dress is lovely; the strict angular tailoring is balanced by the puffed sleeves, and the simplicity of the design makes it quite a subtle garment. Click on thumbnail to see a larger picture. This style can be worn well into the winter, with tights and a lightweight long-sleeved jumper. For the summer I would wear it with brown sandals and a brown handbag. Keep the outfit looking fresh with an off-white necklace and a pale jacket.

Hi Christina, thanks for your comment. I didn't mention a cardigan in my post, as you're right it would have ruined the shape of the dress. I envisioned a very thin jumper underneath. As a bit of a fashion misfit I love black and brown, a la Sartorialist (he takes lots of pictures of interesting colour combos). I Like the idea of giving the dress a rocky '50s vibe though, esp if you could dig out some cherry earrings!

Hi, sorry, but am going to have to totally disagree with your advice on this one. The dress is adorable indeed, but wearing it in the winter? That's a bit of a far stretch--covering the puff sleeves with a cardigan defeats the purpose of its structure, and how can you wear thick tights with something that is just pretty much cotton (with some lycra for stretch). There's some imbalance of texture going on in that suggestion (and not in a good way). We don't need a practical excuse to buy this one! : ) For summer, surely it would be cuter with red shoes, red bag and a coif/teddy boy pompidou ponytail, as it could have pin-up potential? Black with brown is a bit wrong, or indeed mumsy?...
