CDFA: Ralph Lauren A 'Fashion Legend'
The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CDFA) announced the nominees for its 25th annual awards ceremony Monday night with Ralph Lauren to take the honour of Fashion Legend coinciding with his 40th anniversary in the industry. The first-time title will be awarded to Lauren for "his vision and innovation, [which] epitomizes American design excellence and continues to set the standard in fashion," said the council in a statement. Nominees for womenswear designer include Oscar de la Renta, Proenza Schouler and Marc Jacobs. News of Jacobs' nomination came on the day he admitted himself back into rehab. U2 lead singer Bono, will also receive a special award for his efforts to helping wife Ali Hewson start up her ethical clothing company Edun. Up for gongs in the best new talent categories could be Phillip Lim, Kate and Laura Mulleavy for Rodarte and Thakoon Panichgul.
