Beth Ditto for Topshop? Yes, Please!

bethditto.jpg Reports are circulating this morning that Beth Ditto will be the next new face of Topshop alongside Kate Moss. It is rumoured that the lead singer of The Gossip was recently approached by Topshop to design her own collection. "Topshop want me to work with Kate. I'll do it only if I can design the clothes. If Kate can then so can I," she revealed. Despite her recent comments regarding Moss Ditto admits that they're different. "But men like bigger girls as much as skinny ones," she said. Either way, I would love to see Beth Ditto design collection for Topshop as a way of continuing to fly the flag for curveous women. However it's comments such as this made by The Sun, referring to Ditto as "porky" that do little or nothing to help change people's attitudes to size.

Come on, that girl is not healthy! Maybe porky isn't the best way to put it, but she is more than just curvy!

You're right Helen, 15 stone is an unhealthy weight for her height but it's not just her size for which she deserves her own collection. Her fabulous style is what also should be taken into consideration, she has a distinctive look which many women adore. It would be a welcomed change for the high-street where there are still few options for plus-size women style-wise.

I am surprised Ditto would agree to design clothing for a store that won't even produce threads in her size. I'd be a bit miffed about that...

Helen, I would just like to say that its because of narrow minded views like yours about bigger people that society has such an image problem. I think everyone should look beyond size and realise that everyone has a right to be who they are weather they are a size 24 or size 4. Just because someone is fat doesn't automatically make them unhealthy. Just look at Fern Britton who is on the heavy side and the woman cycled the Nile for crying out loud! Wouldn't the world be dull if everyone looked exactly alike?

Mmm, I must say I'm not very fond of her either...

Laura:

I don't think Helen's views are narrow-minded - Beth Ditto is at a weight where her health is at risk as a direct result of her size.

She is as unhealthy (on the other end of the scale) as the size-zeroes are. It doesn't matter if people are on the big end of the scale or the small - unhealthy is unhealthy, no matter which way you look at it. Unhealthy shouldn't be celebrated, whether it's unhealthily thin or unhealthily zaftig.

ew! please topshop, dont do that! the girl cant dress for her shape!

I'm a small girl myself, but I hate it when companies try to use extremely large people as part of their "we are real campaign". Being overweight is not real, it's just a mockery of people who are large; an extremity to being superthin. It's not fair at all. Now if the person designing was voluptuous Queen Latifah or Charlotte Church, I wouldn't have a problem.

Sorry but that women designing clothes for bigger men/women is promoting obesity.
all we hear from tv ect is about healthy eating.
and how kids are obese & teenager.
well topshop is a popular shop amongst teenagers, and im sure they dont want to be branded being supportive of obesity?

Ada -
You think Charlotte Church would be good to design plus size clothing for voluptious women ?? WHY? She's a size 14 at most, the biggest selling size in the UK is a 16 so I would persume someone designing these clothes would need to BE a plus size.....
ALL -
Whether its healthy or unhealthy to be a size 4 or 24 we ALL would like fashionable clothes to wear, its catering for EVERYONE rather than saying you cant wear anything remotely fashionable because your unhealthy......!BIZARRE

extra thin skelatal people are celebrated everyday (in magazinesads &catwalks) they are unhealthy but yet have the most wicked cutting edge clothing readilly availiable to them whenever they like. PEOPLE deserve the right to be able to express themselves through clothing. what do you want big women to do? go and eradicate themeslves? walk around naked? you will always get skinny 4-10 slim 12-16, curvy 18-22, big 24- and beyond women get over yourselves.
I think the real question is why do people care what bigger women are allowed to wear?...why do people feel the need to want to keep bigger women excluded from what society enjoys?. All people are created equal right?
