New York Fashion Week: Diane Von Furstenberg

It may be her Autumn/Winter collection but according to Diane Von Furstenberg that's no excuse to hide those legs! In her first show as president of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CDFA) Von Furstenberg took a strong focus on dresses and... well... not much else. Not that I'm complaining, her procession of pinafores, bunched skirts and signature wrap dresses was a refreshing change for the cooler months. Hang onto those tights girls!

Geometric prints using black, brown and red helped to take her signature wrap dress to the next level. It is particularly good to see bold prints being used again. Diane Von Furstenberg also combined taffeta to add a new element to her collection. Black taffeta was seen in dresses, jackets and skirts.

Expect a return of metallics for the forthcoming season. Von Furstenberg cleverly combined a number of fabrics including taffeta, lace, satin and a hint of wool with silver and grey tones. Perhaps one of my favourite pieces of the collection is the silver Galaxy-esque dress (above, right) with a new Von Furstenberg twist - love it!

Prints, prints, prints! After a season of mostly safe and muted colours, Von Furstenberg raised the bar by including a series of polka dots and 80s prints some with matching coats. Without including coats or some other shoulder-covering this collection could be mistaken for a Spring range. Likewise, with pinafores marching through the fashion world right now it's great to see some alternative styles combining new designs with matching coloured pumps to boot.

I liked the dresses, especially the silver "Galaxy-esque" dress - square neck lines are so flattering, why don't they make more of them?. But more than the dresses, it's the gorgeous ankle boots I'm longing for!!
