New York Fashion Week: Alice Roi
Fall 2007 is check city with tartan dresses, tartan skirts or tartan coats. And not just at Alice Roi, though hers is the designer show we’re looking at. Alice has always been a quirky designer with almost Brit-brat like collections; it came as no surprise that she feature the very British pattern known as tartan.
The entire collection was filled with ‘imperfections’ - skirts and blouses featured uneven and imperfect hem and necklines. While other pieces had bat wings, asymmetric skirts and skin tight mini dresses. It really was a rather eccentric mix of clothes.
More after the jump...
Like Madeline, the cartoon school girl Alice was inspired by, models walked down the catwalk with shin high socks, clunky shoes and chunky knits. I’m really not quite sure about the chunky clogs (did they ever wear those back in the 1903s when Madeline first came to life?), in black or white. They weren’t a good look at all.
I love the pieces that had some shape, but I don’t think I’ll be doing chunky knits again for a while. That could bring interesting flashbacks to my childhood.
