Broadcast outfit

Looking like a sixties femme fatale stranded in space for the last 40 years (but without the ageing!) Trish Keenan is my icon for the moment. Keenan is one third of retro-futurists Broadcast, who manage to combine beautiful melodies and ethereal vocals with the sound of a thousand  sinister clockwork toys whirring into action. The space age/sixties look is very popular at the moment and isn't too difficult to replicate on the high street but I've tried to keep in the retro swing of thing by picking a few vintage items.

With a bit of careful hunting you should be able to pick out a Broadcast influenced outfit from charity shops, but online retro stores offer a painless alternative. First up is this lovely sea green dress  for £40 from Candy Says, wear with some Topshop opaques (£6), white may seen like an odd choice but will totally add to the space cadet look. Accessorise with some cute deer earrings, only $12 from Naughty Secretary Club. To take this look into the stratosphere wear with Plaid Pony Vintage's silver sixties shoes ($32). By now if you add any more secondhand clothing chances are you will look insane, so turn it down a notch with Topshop's wide shawl collar coat for £85. Voila! An outfit perfect for hanging round flyovers and subways pretending you're part of some dystopian future.

Most of the time white tights are bad, but sometimes they can look good in a spacey 60's way. That's my opinion, but I know some people think white tights are hideous!

How do you feel about white tights? Personally, I can't stand them on anyone older than ten years old, but maybe it's because I've yet to see anyone older than that age wear them nicely.

  • Love Broadcast, what a great post!

I love it when you guys show outfits inspired by bands.

Hope we see more of that in CQ.
