Time Magazine's List of Top Ten Fashion Crazes A Load Of Bollocks?

Time magazine have been busy putting together a list of the top ten best of virtually everything which existed in 2006 (including the top ten video games, which WiiWii just looked at), but I thought the fashion list was worth a mention here at Catwalk Queen, simply for its laugh factor. Now, given that Time is an American publication, we presume the fashions must be American-centric as well, as us British Catwalk Queen ladies have been gossiping over the list and barely agree with any of the items on there. Take a look under the jump for the full top 10 run-down, and our thoughts on their selections. Stay tuned for our list tomorrow!
1.) The miniskirt and minidress - we heartily agree! Our legs are all covered in goosebumps as we speak!
2.) Skinny jeans - definitely a hit trend, but we can't help but think it was a trend which caught on long before 2006 - ie, 2004 perhaps?
3.) Platform boots - platforms are a huge trend, however we haven't seen anyone sporting the Balenciaga boots given as Time's example. Is this perhaps a fashion trend limited purely to Vogue's offices in Manhattan? Bah to broken ankles, give us flats anyday.
4.) Wide belts - again, a trend we thought saw the light of day in 05, not 06, Time dahhlings. It was a huge trend back then, admittedly...
5.) Ballet flats - hate to sound like a broken Abba record, but again, everyone was wearing them back in 2004, heck, even my trend-blind mother. And I still can't seem to scrape them off my super-glued-up feet.
6.) Tunics - finally, a trend which did surface in 2006, however it wasn't that huge this side of the pond, oh no, we were favouring little 60s minidresses and sweater jumpers as opposed to shapeless, pregnant-inducing tunics.
7.) Brogue shoes - we've seen them in Vogue, on the catwalks, even on Shoewawa, but has anyone actually seen one in the wild, stuck to someone's foot? Or does anyone actually own a pair?! Case in point.
8.) Thom Browne - apparently this chap is a hipster-god, who men like Russell Brand owe their looks to, as he created the skinny trousers and oops-this-suit-is-three-sizes-too-small style. Well, we are exclusively a womanswear blog, don't hold it against us for not knowing much about this designer!
9.) Thomas Wylde - we do love their bags on The Bag Lady, and boots on Shoewawa, but there's no way they can be credited with starting the skull-and-crossbones scarves phase! Tsk, do they not read Catwalk Queen, we've mentioned Alexander McQueen's scarves a kazillion times!
10.) Black nail polish - Kiss & Makeup readers voted 'Yay' on Chanel's black nail polish, which was a 2006 fashion buzz-item for many months, but does it really deserve a mention on such a prestigious list? We vote no, and sorely because it's not a huge fashion trend over here, unless you're an A-lister. Or Cyberdog of Camden-dweller.

I think I'll hit this point by point. :D
- Skinny jeans: US-side at least seemed to only hit big this year. Maybe it was around circa 2004, but it certainly wasn't a BIG trend until this year. Then again, I've only been a year and a half in New York, and I lived in Wisconsin before that, where comfort is key. I personally won't touch skinnies with a 10 foot pole, but my thin little sister looks great in them.
- Tunics were, far and away, easier to find and more popular than 60s minidresses. In fact, I bought a charcoal one at Target that made me look a little bit like a hip mommy-to-be. And thus it was not worn a whole lot.
- Brogue detailing has been more popular than straight up brogue shoes. I've seen lots of pumps and Mary Janes with the details, but not the full-on man shoe look so much.
