Land girl: Nanette Lepore's wearable high-waist trousers
Just days after I ranted about how we should all be wearing dresses again, I've fallen head-over-heels for a trouser and shirt combo. How fickle we fashionistas are! We all know by now that high waists are back with a vengeance and these trousers from Nanette Lepore are a gorgeously subtle take on the trend. The high waist can be bad news for those of us with body hang-ups, but in the name of research I'm giving it a go today with a Monsoon Fusion skirt, and the general consensus is that it works with curves more than you'd imagine (and can add a them if you're slim). Just be careful if your weight sits on your tummy rather than your hips, or you could run the risk of looking like a pregnant woman in the 1970s.
Teaming tweedy trousers with a blouse the look is very 'Wartime Chic' (a contradiction in terms, I know) and these trousers are a good introduction to the look, as they're not to high and don't have too many buttons or buckles. You'll have to really love this look to invest though, the pants are $295 and the shirt $260, both from Neiman Marcus.
