CQ's Golden Globe Predictions
With the 64th Annual Golden Globe Awards just around the corner and so many wonderful actresses up for gongs, we couldn't resist putting together our predictions for what they might be wearing. Yes, here at Catwalk Queen we like to tackle the big issues.
Afterall, who really remembers who won which award last year? Chances are that you're more likely to remember what they were wearing...
Beyonce Knowles - Nominee, Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture: Comedy or Musical
The star of "Dreamgirls" chose vintage Versace for the Oscars two years ago and is a huge fan of Elie Saab as well as being the clothes horse for her mother's line, House of Dereon, so what will Beyonce select for this year's Golden Globes ceremony?
Our guess is it may be a pick from Elie Saab's Spring '07 Ready-To-Wear collection (see far left). In golden hue, Beyonce would shine on the red carpet and could easily accessorise this strapless maxi gown with her trademark over-sized bling earrings. It would also be safe to assume that Beyonce will stick with Versace and this strapless plum satin dress also from their '07 Spring RTW collection (see left) could be another option. The colour would easily accentuate the tone of her skin and there are many ways it could be accessorised with a stunning diamond necklace, earrings and bracelet. Then again on such an enormous event for the singer (it's her first Golden Globes nomination) she could very well shock us all by going with a new designer or simply use the occasion to promote her mother's label and once again front up in one of mum's designs. Let's hope not!
Kate Winslet - Nominee, Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture: Drama
An awards show veteran, Kate rarely fails to light up the red carpet. She has four previous Golden Globe nominations and this time is up against her two fellow British dames, Helen Mirren and Dame Judy Dench so it's fair to say that the Brits have it in the bag this year. But more importantly, which designer will Kate choose to make her look fabulous this coming Monday?
Having previously worn Badgley Mischka to the Oscars, I could certainly see her stepping out of the limo wearing this sparkly number by the same designer (right). The low cut neckline and figure hugging design would certainly suit her shape well and show off her wonderful curves.
Having said that, I could also see her wanting to add a splash of colour to the evening by going with this bright red chiffon gown from Valentino's Spring '07 RTW collection. We particularly like the knot detail and feel this would be a good choice for her alongside the same old black numbers that will sashay up arrivals area once again.
Maggie Gyllenhaal - Nominee, Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture: Drama
She is definitely a favourite around the CQ offices so when we heard that she had been nominated for her performance in "Sherrybaby" we could hardly wait to predict what Maggie Gyllenhaal might wear to this year's Golden Globes. If she follows our wishes to go with a designer with more of a quirky flair (and why wouldn't you adhere to our requests?) then we'd love to see her in something from Zac Posen.
This navy satin gown with black fringing from Zac Posen's Spring '07 collection (far left) would look amazing on her tall, svelte frame. The halter and loose fitting top section is a great match with the more fitted bottom section including flared skirt. We especially love the black fringing which adds interest and a unique twist to overall design.
For a more elegant style we also wouldn't mind it if Miss Maggie turned up in this stunning gold sequin gown with patent leather belt from Michael Kors (left). Cinching in at the waist but leaving the top exposed, this 80s inspired floor-length frock would certainly get her on the best-dressed list.
Evangeline Lilly - Nominee, Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series: Drama
Up for a gong in the television section of the Golden Globe Awards (see, this is why we love these awards so much) is "Lost" hottie Evangeline Lilly. Known for her feminine yet creative style, Evangeline has a laid back attitude to fashion. "Everyone wants me to be the new sexy girl," she once told reporters.
Another fan of Versace, and let's face it who isn't? Our predictions as to what Evangeline might wear to the Globes include this sweeping satin gown from Dior's last collection (see right). The gathered skirt and beaded detail provides that feminine touch while the deep neckline and low back would help to show off Evangeline's toned arms.
Alternatively, she could very well arrive in this Roberto Cavalli navy floor length dress with jewel encrusted halter neckline (far right). The snake-like jewel feature would make Evangeline a stand out from the crowd and give her the seal of approval from CQ. Now, what could be more important than that?
