Nancy Drew inspired outfit

Nanbooks
Not only am I madly in love with fashion from the Art Deco and WWII eras, but I am a huge mystery buff - although I may well have given that away with my fanatic ravings about Enid Blyton and Miss Marple! One of my other childhood obsessions was Nancy Drew, and I'm not alone - her mysteries have been continuously in print since the 1930s, when the first mystery 'The Secret of the Old Clock' was printed! She started out blonde and flapper-esque, and was rewritten in later years to appeal to a 'more modern' audience. The now titian-haired beauty is certainly a formidable force; so who better to turn to for inspiration for our latest book-inspired outfit!

To get the look, keep reading after the cut...

Although the neckline may be a little risque for the era, I thought that this faux-wrap dress from Warehouse for £55 was the perfect start , with it's 3/4 length and flattering shape. Pair with brogue-detailed suede heels from Philosophy for $155; and what self-respecting amateur detective would be without a magnifying glass - try this kitsch filigree rose necklace for $29 from Treasured Finds! Cap it all off (teehee!) with this gorgeous olive-green woolen hat - perfect for the era - just $29.99 from Hats in the Belfry.

To add a winter touch, this dark aubergine-coloured coat  is fantastic, and ties the colour of the dress and shoes together beautifully - it's £100 from Warehouse. Add warmth with this gorgeous vintage-styled scarf from Debenhams, for £15; and colour-match to the max (very 30s!) with the olive-coloured, ruched gloves - £19 from Principles. Finish it all off with these bead earrings and necklace, £8 from Evans; which will also balance out the 'naffness' of the magnifying glass!

Thanks for all the awesome comments, girls! These are my favourite 'outfits' to put together :)

If you keep a keen eye out, you'll also spot a couple of film-inspired looks over the coming weeks that will truly reveal how geeky I am :D:D:D (and I'll keep working on book-inspired ones too!)

I love it.

Thank you for showing some cool stuff for us book lovers. It is soooo romantic.

Love it. At the same time affordable for any working woman.

Now all I have to do is lose 10-20 lbs and I am in!

Can we have a Thursday Next one at some point, please? If you've not read them, DO - you'll love them, I swear. Best non-His Dark Materials books I've read in the last five years.
